What Trello costs beyond the advertised price
Each of these is a figure you can check on the vendor's own page. The arithmetic is shown so you can redo it rather than take our word for it.
- Monthly billing costs more$12 a year
The advertised $5 on Standard is the annual-payment rate. Paying monthly is $6, so the commitment is worth $12 a year per user.
Working$6 - $5 = $1 a month, x 12 = $12 a year per user.

What Trello actually costs over a year
A monthly price is not the same thing as a monthly contract. These are the plans above resolved both ways, per seat or unit where the plan is charged that way. Where a vendor quotes only a yearly figure it is divided by twelve rather than left out, and the Quoted column says which figure the vendor actually publishes.
| Plan | Quoted | Monthly | Over 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standardper user, billed annually | per month | $5 | $60 |
| Premiumper user, billed annually | per month | $10 | $120 |
| Enterpriseper user, billed annually | per month | $17.50 | $210 |
Cancelling Trello, and getting money back
Read from the published Trello terms on 18 September 2026. These are the terms, not legal advice: consumer law where you live may give you rights the terms do not mention.
| When you cancel | A Workspace plan is cancelled at the end of its billing period and the Workspace becomes free at that point. |
|---|---|
| Changing mid-term | A trial with a payment method on file converts to the paid plan automatically at the end of the trial; without one it drops to free. Cancelling a trial early needs billing support. Plans can only be changed from the web app, not the desktop or mobile ones. |

5 archived captures with no price we could read
The capture exists, but the figures on it could not be extracted - usually a page that renders prices in JavaScript, or a currency selector the archive did not record. Listed rather than dropped, because a gap in a price history reads as "nothing changed" and these are not that.
- 14 April 2015 - capture - no plan name sat next to a published figure in this capture

Compiled 18 September 2026 from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Plan names were matched against the archived page text and the first currency-anchored figure within 160 characters was recorded, rejecting any figure with a competing plan name standing between it and the name it was matched to. The currency and the unit were read from each capture rather than assumed: captures served in a currency other than $, and captures where no plan name sat beside a figure, are listed as unread rather than dropped. Archived pages show the price as served to the archive's crawler, which may differ by region from the price you are shown.
Trello pricing against its competitors
Compared on the smallest invoice each vendor will accept, not on the advertised per-seat rate. Where a product has a seat minimum, the figure below is the minimum times the rate, because that is the cheque you would actually write.
| Product | Cheapest paid entry | Free plan | Against Trello |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trello | $5 a month | Yes | This product |
| Asana | $21.98 a month | Yes | +$16.98 a month (+340%) |
| monday.com | $27 a month | Yes | +$22 a month (+440%) |
Which Trello plan should you buy?
| Your situation | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A small team wants a simple shared board | Free | Up to 10 collaborators per Workspace with unlimited cards. Genuinely sufficient for many teams. |
| You need unlimited boards and advanced checklists | Standard | $5 per user billed annually. |
| You want calendar, timeline and dashboard views | Premium | $10 per user billed annually, and views are the usual reason to upgrade. |
| You need Atlassian Guard and admin controls | Enterprise | $17.50 per user billed annually. |
| You are coordinating several teams with dependencies | Consider Asana or Jira instead | Trello deliberately has no dependency or resource model. |
| You need to report on effort or capacity | Do not buy Trello | It does not track either. This is a board, not a planning system. |

What the free tier actually limits
Unlimited cards, ten collaborators per Workspace. That is generous for a small team and a hard stop for a growing one, and the limit counts people in the Workspace rather than per board. Teams frequently discover it when inviting a contractor.
Where Trello stops working
The failure mode is consistent and worth recognising early. A board works beautifully until roughly the point where someone asks one of these:
- Who has too much on right now?
- What is blocking this, and what does it block?
- How long did that actually take?
None of those are board questions. If they are being asked weekly, the team has outgrown Trello and no amount of Power-Ups will fix it.
Butler is the underrated feature
Trello’s automation quietly does real work: move a card when a checklist completes, assign on label, post to Slack when something reaches a list. For teams running repeatable processes, Butler removes more manual effort than the paid views do, and it is available on the free tier in limited form.
Trello or Asana?
Choose Trello when simplicity is the point and the work fits a board. Choose Asana when work spans teams, has dependencies, and someone needs to report on it. The price difference is real but rarely decisive; the structural difference is.
