What Bitbucket actually costs over a year
A monthly price is not the same thing as a monthly contract. These are the plans above resolved both ways, per seat or unit where the plan is charged that way. Where a vendor quotes only a yearly figure it is divided by twelve rather than left out, and the Quoted column says which figure the vendor actually publishes.
| Plan | Quoted | Monthly | Over 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standardper user | per month | $3.65 | $43.80 |
| Premiumper user | per month | $7.25 | $87 |

6 archived captures with no price we could read
The capture exists, but the figures on it could not be extracted - usually a page that renders prices in JavaScript, or a currency selector the archive did not record. Listed rather than dropped, because a gap in a price history reads as "nothing changed" and these are not that.
- 8 October 2015 - capture - no plan name sat next to a published figure in this capture

- 9 July 2025 - capture - no plan name sat next to a published figure in this capture
Compiled 18 September 2026 from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Plan names were matched against the archived page text and the first currency-anchored figure within 160 characters was recorded, rejecting any figure with a competing plan name standing between it and the name it was matched to. The currency and the unit were read from each capture rather than assumed: captures served in a currency other than $, and captures where no plan name sat beside a figure, are listed as unread rather than dropped. Archived pages show the price as served to the archive's crawler, which may differ by region from the price you are shown.
Bitbucket pricing against its competitors
Compared on the smallest invoice each vendor will accept, not on the advertised per-seat rate. Where a product has a seat minimum, the figure below is the minimum times the rate, because that is the cheque you would actually write.
| Product | Cheapest paid entry | Free plan | Against Bitbucket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitbucket | $3.65 a month | Yes | This product |
| GitHub | $4 a month | Yes | +$0.35 a month (+10%) |
| GitLab | $29 a month | Yes | +$25.35 a month (+695%) |
Which Bitbucket plan should you buy?
| Your situation | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You are a team of five or fewer using Jira | Free | Unlimited private repositories for up to 5 users, with 50 build minutes. |
| You have more than five people | Standard | $3.65 per user, the cheapest mainstream Git hosting. The 5-user free ceiling is what forces this step. |
| You need merge checks and deployment permissions | Premium | $7.25 per user, and required if you enforce review rules rather than trusting convention. |
| Your test suite runs on every push | Budget extra build minutes | 2,500 minutes on Standard goes quickly, and extra minutes are $10 per 1,000. |
| You are running an open-source project | Do not use Bitbucket | Outside contributors expect GitHub, and Bitbucket offers nothing for public projects. |
Atlassian licensing costs
Every other Atlassian product priced on this site, with the smallest invoice each will accept and the specific questions answered for it.
- Confluence pricing - from $5.42 a month on Standard
- Jira pricing - from $7.91 a month on Standard
- Trello pricing - from $5 a month on Standard
The Jira link is the entire argument
When a developer names a branch after a Jira issue key, Bitbucket connects the two automatically: the issue shows the branch, the pull request, the review state and eventually the deployment. No webhook, no app, no maintenance. For an organisation already committed to Jira, that removes the status-reporting overhead that otherwise falls on developers.
Nothing else Bitbucket does is better than the alternatives, and this one thing is genuinely hard to replicate.
Watch the build minutes
Standard includes 2,500 Pipelines minutes a month and Premium 3,500, with extra minutes at $10 per 1,000. A test suite that runs on every push consumes those faster than teams expect, and unlike GitHub Actions there is a smaller catalogue of pre-built steps to lean on. Price your CI volume, not just your seats.
The 5-user free ceiling
Free covers up to five users with unlimited private repositories. GitHub’s free tier has no collaborator limit at all, so a six-person team pays on Bitbucket and not on GitHub. For small teams without Jira, that comparison alone usually settles it.
Where it makes sense in 2026
Two situations, honestly. First, you are an Atlassian organisation and the integration saves real effort. Second, you need cheap private Git hosting with CI included and do not care about ecosystem. Outside those, GitHub or GitLab will serve you better, and the gap is widening rather than narrowing.

Where Bitbucket appears on this site
No buyer guide, article or other profile here references Bitbucket yet. Its own record is verified and dated, but it has not been placed against alternatives in a comparison, so there is nothing further to link to. Until then the category index is the best place to see what it sits beside.
