What Datadog costs beyond the advertised price
Each of these is a figure you can check on the vendor's own page. The arithmetic is shown so you can redo it rather than take our word for it.
- Charged on top of a plan$96 a year
Code Coverage is charged on top of a plan rather than instead of one: $8 a month, which is $96 a year on top of whichever tier you hold.
Working$8 a month x 12 = $96 a year, added to a tier price rather than replacing it.

What Datadog actually costs over a year
A monthly price is not the same thing as a monthly contract. These are the plans above resolved both ways, per seat or unit where the plan is charged that way. Where a vendor quotes only a yearly figure it is divided by twelve rather than left out, and the Quoted column says which figure the vendor actually publishes.
| Plan | Quoted | Monthly | Over 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure Proper host | per month | $15 | $180 |
| Infrastructure Enterpriseper host | per month | $23 | $276 |
| Code Coverage add-on | per month | $8 | $96 |
Cancelling Datadog, and getting money back
Read from the published Datadog terms on 18 September 2026. These are the terms, not legal advice: consumer law where you live may give you rights the terms do not mention.
| Refund window | None published |
|---|---|
| When you cancel | Committed fees run for the full order term. Outside the specific exits the agreement allows, there is no refund of fees paid and the committed amount stays owing whether or not the service is used at that level. |
| Changing mid-term | Two routes do earn a pro-rated refund of prepaid amounts: terminating after availability falls below the standard in two consecutive months, and terminating for an uncured material breach. |
| Your data afterwards | A named user keeps access to download customer data for up to 30 days after termination, provided the account is paid up. After that it is deleted in the ordinary course. |

Which Datadog plan should you buy?
| Your situation | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You run five hosts or fewer and want to try it | Infrastructure Free | Up to 5 hosts with 1-day retention. Enough to see the value, not to operate on. |
| You run production infrastructure and need real retention | Infrastructure Pro | $15 per host billed annually with 15-month metric retention. The working tier. |
| You need advanced administration and audit | Infrastructure Enterprise | $23 per host, bought for governance rather than for more telemetry. |
| You want APM, logs, RUM or synthetics | Budget each product separately | Every product is billed on its own unit. The host price is the start of the bill, not the bill. |
| Your log volume is high and your budget fixed | Consider Grafana Cloud instead | Cheaper at volume, and the components are open source if you later self-host. |
| You run one small application | Do not buy Datadog | An uptime monitor costs a few dollars a month and answers the question you actually have. |
Understand the billing units before you adopt
This is the whole story with Datadog. The products you are likely to enable bill on entirely different units:
- Infrastructure: per host, per month
- APM: per host
- Logs: per ingested gigabyte, then again per indexed event
- RUM: per thousand sessions
- Synthetics: per test run
- Code Coverage: per committer
Nothing on that list is per seat. That means engineering decisions are pricing decisions: scaling out containers, raising log levels during an incident, or adding synthetic checks all change the bill without anyone visiting a billing page.
Logs are where budgets break
The recurring pattern is the same across organisations. Log volume grows quietly, indexing is left at defaults, and a quarterly invoice arrives that nobody predicted. Datadog provides the tools to control this, including Flex Logs for cheaper long retention and exclusion filters to avoid indexing noise. They only help if someone configures them deliberately.
Annual versus on-demand
The published rates assume annual commitment. On-demand costs roughly 20% more: $18 against $15 per host on Pro, $27 against $23 on Enterprise. If your host count fluctuates, the flexibility may be worth the premium, but for a stable estate the annual rate is the sensible default.
When something simpler is the right answer
If you run a handful of servers and want to know when they stop responding, an uptime monitor costs a few dollars a month and will serve you better. Datadog earns its price when you have distributed systems, real incident load, and engineers whose time is worth more than the licence. Below that threshold, Grafana Cloud or self-hosted Prometheus will cover the requirement for a fraction of the cost.
